United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres rejected the “misrepresentations” of his remarks a day earlier on Hamas. Speaking to reporters, Guterres said, “I am shocked by misrepresentations by some as if I were justifying acts of terror by Hamas.” On Tuesday, the UN chief said at the UNSC that ‘Hamas did not happen in a vacuum’. His remarks infuriated Israel. Israel’s envoy to the UN, Gilad Erdan, asked for Guterres’ resignation and said Israel would refuse visas to UN officials and its ambassadors.
