Hungary has warned of “hard veto” on Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union (EU) if its national interests are harmed. This comes after Hungary blocked EU’s $55 billion in crucial aid to Ukraine despite the western bloc unfreezing almost $11 billion in cohesion funds for Budapest. Hungary, once a strong backer of Ukraine, has completely left Kyiv in the lurch. In recent months, it has severed aid to Ukraine, and said that Kyiv’s entry to the EU is “light years away”.
